abstract

introduction: human leukocyte antigen (hla) genes are the most polymorphic loci in the human genome. they predict the outcome of transplantation by detecting self from non-self antigens. the best use of hla typing is to find a hla-match donor for bmt candidate patients. evidence suggests that matching unrelated donors and recipients for hla-a, -b and -drb1 loci is a prediction for an improved outcome. methods and materials: hla-a and -b of six hundred iranian cord blood samples were typed by pcr-ssp method and the frequency of loci were estimated. results: the most frequent alleles were a*02(18.16), a*24(16.41), b*35(21.66) and b*51(13.35), respectively. discussion: our hla typing data show similarity between neighbor and related countries and caucasians. identifying hla alleles helps to find suitable donors for patients in need of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

HLA Class I Allele Frequencies in Southern Iranian Women with Breast Cancer

OBJECTIVE(S) Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in women worldwide. It has been revealed that elevated risk for malignancy may be associated with certain HLA alleles. This study was performed to assess the association of HLA class I alleles with breast cancer in women in Southern Iran. MATERIALS AND METHOD Eighty nine patients included for analyzing the HLA class I all...

HLA class II allele and haplotype frequencies in Iranian patients with leukemia.

Previous studies demonstrated significant differences in a number of HLA allele frequencies in leukemia patients and normal subjects. In this study, we have analyzed HLA class II alleles and haplotypes in 110 leukemia patients (60 acute myelogenous leukemia "AML", 50 chronic myelogenous leukemia"CML") and 180 unrelated normal subjects. Blood samples were collected from all of the patients and c...

HLA CLASS I IN IRANIAN P SORIATIC PATIENTS

The association of HLA and disease varies in different populations. We have . studied the association of HLA class I in Iranian psoriatic patients, in order to compare this association with other reports. Fifty-one Iranian patients with psoriasis were HLA typed. The frequency of HLA antigens in patients and patient subgroups, based on clinical patterns, age of onset, family history and prov...
